Roll Cameras

Now that the Vault is finally finished (for now at least), things are starting to move forward with the 1nes project. It feels like it took forever to get to this point, but now everything is starting to snowball. We’ve been filming the youth in the project on the set in the Vault, and we’re trying to get a sample conversation down. This conversation will be just one of the segments of the show, and will be about 4 – 5 minutes long. The rest of the show will be made up of artistic expression, and perhaps some other aspects. It’s taking a bit of experimenting to get the format right, and that process can be seen in the first scratch conversation that we edited together last night. It starts out feeling quite awkward and a little scripted, and then it begins to loosen up and feel more natural as the youth warm up to being on camera and working together.

The editing is pretty intensive and it is forcing me to quickly learn a lot of new skills, which is fantastic. Editing sound and multiple cameras together can get fairly complex, but I’m starting to move through it faster. I discovered some new multi-camera editing features in Adobe Premiere the other day which are pretty amazing, and I am hoping to be able to use Plural Eyes to streamline the video & audio sync process. We went through a number of different mic options and we finally decided on a very nice Rode NT4 stereo condensor mic, and we are quite happy with the audio for now.

It’s hard to know where this is going to go, but it’s an exciting process and a real learning experience for everyone involved. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of it.

This is the 1nes crew on the Vault set for their first official shoot!

In the editing room.

We went around town today to capture some potential shots for the intro. The wind came up today while I was shooting this and drenched my camera with fountain water. Thankfully it survived.

I sent this picture to Vafa and about 3 minutes later he sent it back as this meme.
